Post #24- ROYGBIV: Orange You Ready?

Everyone has their favourite Red lipstick and we featured a whole post dedicated to finding the right red for the moment, but ORANGE is the colour for now. Perhaps it’s because it’s my favourite or maybe it’s because it is a showstopper in any shade, but orange just hits different when it’s worn on purpose and I. Am. Here. For. It.

Spring is also a great time to revisit this bright moment usually rusted over for Autumn and hidden away for the Winter months. Orange like the juice is like a burst of sunshine that can be so refreshing and even unexpected. That being said, let’s look at what the make up drawer had to offer in the way of orange lippies. I can’t wait to show them to you!

My first real Orange experience came years ago with my favourite MAC moment provided by Lady Danger. This electric traffic cone orange just seemed to adorn my lips in a way that begged my brown skin around it to glisten. This one makes me so happy especially in the summer months when my melanin is glowing in its mocha chocolate radiance.

Next up are two from the faithful part of my collection: Superstay Matte Ink by Maybelline in Globetrotter and Heroine. I like the first for Autumn and the second one for the Summer. One is rusted and subtle and the other says, “you better notice me” with its almost red and blue undertones. The brighter the sunshine or light around you, the brighter these seem to be as well. Globetrotter also reminds me of MFMG’s Rust colour with feels similar own the lips but pops differently. See all three below.

These next few have appeared here before thanks to the colours That Scare My Mother or the Bold Colours post, but these babies are electric and eye catching. Electric Raine by ColouredRaine is a liquid lipstick that dries matte without drying you out and pops like a pastel colour without being a pastel colour 🤯. Boy Trouble by The LipBar is so pigmented and long lasting that it takes any make up look up several notches. Depending on the lighting, this one can look like a coral red but on my two tones, it’s a fiery orange that comes out to play. I have also started playing with it as an under-eye liner. Long lasting eyeliner? Yes please! (but that’s a different blog.) I’ve also come across another Black Owned brand called JWalk with this very bright tangerine orange called Twirl. It was such a pop of colour that I instantly smiled. They say their colours are traffic stoppers and I couldn’t agree more. This one is captivating. What a way to bring sunshine into your day.

These next two have made their way onto the go-to list. They go on easily and feel wonderful. And while they don’t last all day, they are long lasting for creamy lipsticks. The first is by The Mothership, PatMcGrath Labs in the shade Fever Dream and it glides onto my lips in this soft peach like orange that is subtle and complimenting at the same time. The second is by Maybelline in the Superstay Ink Crayon entitled Laugh Louder and it has more of a coral vibe going on. Both made even some of my Winter days reminiscent of Summer.

Last but certainly not least are the two that inspired this post. They both appeared here last week in a combo, but I really do appreciate the people at Bite Beauty who have come up with a soft orange in Praline and who also allowed me to come in and make my own. Both are healthy for the body, long lasting, and for multiple places on the face. Genius idea! Sometimes I add a little bit of a transparent gloss on top, but glossy or not, these ones are a hit all year round.

Now that you’ve seen my orange collection, tell me which ones are your favourite? Are you brave enough to add some orange to your current look? Perhaps you already have an Orange love you use for those special days or seasons. Who made them? I want to know. Oh and that reminds me, where else on your face are you using your lippies? If you choose to join me on my quest through the rainbow, or if this post was helpful in showing you a small world of colour outside of your one red and your everyday-neutral, then I’m glad for you and whichever you choose I only ask that you #Wearitlikeyoumeanit and mean it when you do. It’s orange for crying out loud! More of the rainbow to come.
